Connections
Materials: acrylic, newsprint, panel
This work is a type of art referred to as "Systemic Art" where an artist employs a number of aesthetic decisions before commencing to paint. In "Connections" I assigned colors to the letters of the alphabet then recorded the letters on the tiles that I drew when playing games of Scrabble with friends. Using "the system" I then painted squares meant to replicate the tiles with the assigned colors on a background of dictionary pages. The rhythmic repetition of the bright colors creates a visual cadence and the opacity of the paint invites the viewer to shift between reading and seeing.
